Landscape Architect

Philadelphia, PA | Full-Time | Hybrid (4 days in-office, Fridays remote)

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Landscape Architect to join our collaborative design team and lead the design and delivery of several mini-parks and green spaces in West and Southwest Philadelphia. This is a hands-on role for someone who loves both the craft of design and the process of building it with a community - from concept sketches through construction documents.

Your expertise will help transform ideas into compelling visualizations and detailed construction documents, ensuring projects meet community expectations, regulatory standards, and sustainable practices. This paid position offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful projects in Philadelphia's neighborhoods.

Duties

• Lead design of multiple mini-park and green space projects, site plans through construction documents.

• Develop compelling graphics, renderings, and presentation materials for community meetings, funders, and city partners.

• Collaborate on the development of community engagement sessions (expect evening/weekend hours).

• Collaborate with clients, community members, city agencies, contractors, and interdisciplinary teams to develop conceptual and detailed landscape designs that align with project goals and sustainability principles

• Create accurate drawings and visualizations, complemented by hand-drawn sketches and renderings for presentation purposes

• Develop 3D models and realistic renderings utilizing Rhino 3D, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop, and other graphic design tools to communicate design intent effectively

• Prepare presentation documents and booklets using Adobe InDesign

• Conduct site analysis using QGIS to develop context analysis 

• Prepare construction documentation including planting plans, hardscape details, irrigation layouts, and specifications for construction teams

• Assist in project management tasks such as scheduling, budgeting estimates for landscaping components, and coordinating with contractors during construction phases

What you bring

• Minimum 5 years professional landscape architecture experience.

• Interest in community-led collaborative design processes.

• Comfort with a flexible schedule, including regular evening/weekend commitments for community engagement events (flex time offered in return)

• Strong graphic design and presentation development skills with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Experience preparing print and presentation documents in InDesign for presentation graphics, reports, booklet and guides is a must.

• Proficiency in CAD software including AutoCAD and Rhino 3D for drafting and modeling.

• Experience with GIS platforms for spatial analysis and land surveying data integration. Our office uses QGIS but could consider other platforms.

• Knowledge of horticulture principles to select appropriate plant species for various environments

• Hands-on experience in construction documentation, estimating costs, and coordinating with contractors during landscape installation

• Familiarity with sustainable landscape architecture practices, particular green Stormwater infrastructure

• Effective communication skills to present ideas clearly and incorporate feedback into final designs

• Understanding of civil engineering concepts related to grading and drainage

• Skilled in hand-drawn illustration techniques for conceptual sketches and design development is a plus but not necessary

Schedule

4 days/week in our Philadelphia office, Fridays remote. Flexible daily hours to accommodate frequent evening and weekend community engagement events.

The salary range for this position is $75,000–$90,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
